The London Stock Exchange Group, in partnership with the Africa Development Bank Group, CDC Group and PwC, recently released a report titled “Companies to Inspire Africa 2017”

The report reveals a side of Africa’s business landscape most of the world has been blind to. It profiles hundreds of Africa’s most inspiring private, high-growth companies that have come to the attention of major global investors.

The businesses profiled in this report boast an impressive average compound annual growth rate of 16%, and on average, each firm employs nearly 400 people.

12 percent of these high-growth companies are led by female entrepreneurs, which is three times the average for companies across Africa.

This report clearly demonstrates that high-growth, private companies are fast becoming the driving force behind African economies, and not the commodity-driven continent the rest of the world sees.

And according to the London Stock Exchange Group, it is no longer just the natural resources (oil, gas, mining and precious metal) sector that is looking to global capital markets to finance growth, but emerging sectors from across the pan-African economy.
